The McCLELLAN AUSSIE

This saddle is an intriguing marriage of two very old saddles -- The classic US Army McClellan, and the legendary Aussie stock saddle. The future General McClellan "developed" this saddle from a "Prussian Hungarian saddle", admitting to such in a letter he wrote from Europe in 1865. (Had he done that today, it would simply be called a rip-off!)  It was first used by the US Cavalry in 1858, and patented in 1865. Meanwhile, in Australia, runaway or freed convictcs were developing the Australian stock saddle, with knee pads, or "poleys", to keep them seated during mad dashes running cattle on the most most rugged terrain on earth.

One major problem with the traditional McClellan is that it is a "launching pad". It has no security. It was designed for troops to sit in all day ,at the walk, so they could get to some place in reasonable shape to kill somebody. Many more troops fell out of it than got shot out of it !! Yet, the saddle has many other merits. Close contact. Stability on the horse. Great balance. SOOOO...we at the Australian Stock Saddle Company, 150 years later, have boldly decided to improve a legend. We have added POLEYS to the McClellan!!!
Price: $795

The next image shows how the McClellan Aussie saddle is measured.

You can also see that the saddle works well on a Mule.

Rigging System

The Survivor Poley

This is our remake of the classic old Australian Stock Saddle.
It has the traditional Australian outer flap  BUT it rigs up Western, (see second picture)  so it does not need an overgirth.  For super close contact, it also does not have a sweat flap -- doesn't need one, because of the rigging system.  Australian leather, Australian sheepskin, adjustable wood/steel tree, web-suspended seat for great rider comfort.  Weight  25lbs unmounted.

$1195.00 without a horn  horn adds $100.00.

The Poley Optional SURVIVOR

This saddle takes the Australian stock saddle to a new level of rider preference. It comes with poleys (or knee pads) that are separate from the saddle,  but can be bolted on if wanted. Ride this SURVIVOR like a deep English saddle, or bolt on the poleys and ride it like an Australian stock saddle. This special edition does NOT come with a horn as an option!. Like the traditional SURVIVOR it is made from fine Australian or European leather, with Australian Merino sheepskin on the underside. The depth of the seat is 5", and the weight without poleys is 20 lbs. It comes with campdraft leathers and, like the regular SURVIVOR, rigs Western with our remarkable tackaberry system,

Colors brown or black.

Leather Maverick Deluxe

The Leather Maverick Deluxe is built with Australian leather on Australian sheepskin. The solid tree is carbon-laced fiberglass reinforced with steel. The saddle comes in a semi-quarter tree that can be narrowed for high withered horses. The stirrups hang off a stirrup suspension bar mounted in the classic dressage position, for maximum leg movement, and less stress on back and knees.

Colors black or brown.

This is how the Maverick Deluxe sits on an average trail quarter horse. Note the close contact, and low elevation of the saddle.

LEATHER MAVERICK MARK II

This saddle is built on solid wool felt panels ,instead of fleece, for longer lasting performance. The tree is fiberglass, and the fenders go over the rail of the tree, which puts them in a position about halfway between dressage (as are all our Australian saddles built on wood/steel trees)  and traditional Western. Colors brown or solid black. Price fully mounted (ready to ride) is $595, with or without horn.
