The McCLELLAN AUSSIEThis saddle is an intriguing marriage of two very old saddles -- The
classic US Army McClellan, and the legendary Aussie stock saddle. The future
General McClellan "developed" this saddle from a "Prussian Hungarian
saddle", admitting to such in a letter he wrote from Europe in 1865. (Had he
done that today, it would simply be called a rip-off!) It was first used by
the US Cavalry in 1858, and patented in 1865. Meanwhile, in Australia,
runaway or freed convictcs were developing the Australian stock saddle, with
knee pads, or "poleys", to keep them seated during mad dashes running cattle
on the most most rugged terrain on earth.
