Center-Fire Rigging

Center-fire rigging is an ideal way to set back the girth on a horse with sensitive skin at the elbow. Avoids galling. It is especially useful with mule, where saddles tend to slide forward. Extra long nylon tackaberry lacing, with buckle. Priced at $55.00 a pair.

Double Billet Surcingle

This is the style of SURCINGLE that is necessary to attach a pair of Aussie converters. Make sure holes are punch up as high as possible on this surcingle, so the converters can be placed as high as possible. A girth four inches shorter than normal is necessary with the converters, because the cinch ring is now lower. Sizes STANDARD or WIDE. Colors black or brown.

The near side (the side from which you mount) shows the function of the traditional girthing system. The forward buckle of the girth engages the strap that is attached to the saddle. The strap that is attached to the girth goes up through the ring of the surcingle (the wide strap going over the the top of the saddle), and then goes back to the rear buckle. This gives opportunity to get tension on the girth, with a pulley effect. No need to count holes. Get as much tension on the girth strap as is desired, then engaged whatever hole is possible on the leading billet. Our standard girth is neoprene with nylon appointments, as shown. Colors of girth brown or black.
The off-side view of the traditional Australian girthing system. The forward billet is attached to the saddle, the rear billet is the end of the surcingle, that goes over the top of the saddle, down through a slot on either side of the outer flaps. This system provides an under and over purchase for safety.

Double Girth Conversion

THE DOUBLE GIRTH CONVERSION is a great way to secure a saddle on a round back low withered horse, when the saddle is traditional Australian with a single billet attached to the tree, between the flaps.

The forward girth is a single buckle with attached adjustment straps that go to the two buckles on each end of an Aussie girth. This attached inverted V strap has holes to give the girth up to six inches of adjustement.

The rear girth on the near side is secured with a tackaberry lacing that engages the back cinch ring and the ring of a double ring surcingle. This pulls into a center fire style rigging. The near side operates with a tackaberry buckle that hooks onto the lip of an R/B girth, engaging the ring end of the girth. The offside uses a tackaberry lacing that is attached to the rear cinch ring, with a cowboy knot, and then passed through the buckle end of the girth so it is secured there, doing the function of an off-billet.

The two girths are connected with a short strap. Complete DOUBLE GIRTH CONVERSION rig, in black or brown: $199

Tackaberry System

We have converted many of our saddles , that come with surcingles, to a unique Big D and surcingle combination, using the handy tackaberry buckle with nylon lacing. Takes the work out of girthing -- and eliminates anxiety for the horse.
