The ROBINSON DRAFTER was the big selling luxury saddle through the '90's and into '10. It was built by Trevor James, of Brisbane, Australia, and is on an adjustable wood and steel tree, with a web suspended seat. The leather in this particular saddle
came from New Zealand, produced by a tannery no longer existing. It was, without doubt, the finest saddle leather ever produced. If produced today, this saddle would sell for $5,000. We are selling this one, in a 17" seat, in excellent condition, for $1,995

The TRADITIONAL OUTBACK PACK SADDLE is unique. This is what Outback drovers and "ringers" (Americans call them cowboys) have used for hundreds of years. It is the only pack saddle that was designed for a galloping horse. The idea in the bush is a horse wears this pack saddle for a day, while other horses with riders are chasing wild cattle. Next day, the pack is changed to a saddle horse. So as the days go by, the pack saddle is rotated to all horses in the "muster" so when the ringers are chasing cattle, very often the horse with the pack saddle is right up there in front, herding the cattle as if he or she had a rider. Riders trained the horse to do this. This PACK SADDLE is designed to hit trees at the gallop, or plough through brush. It is virtually
indestructible. Horses quickly figure out the extremities of the pack. Ringers and drover never lead pack horses. Can't do that at the gallop!! Weight of the PACK empty is about 60 lbs. The
panniers hang on a steel frame that is mounted to a specially quilted underside, stuffed with six inches of horse hair. The
panniers hang on hooks. The idea is to first cinch up the frame, the basic saddle, and then lift the
panniers on the steel hooks. The unit shown comes with breastplate and breeching and all the tie straps necessary. The
panniers are separate units, but are included in this unique package. When the paniers are completely full for a mustering camp, it is not uncommon for the whole unit to weight 200 lbs. The PACK SADDLE has almost two complete steer hides.!
