Prussian cavalry saddle

This Saddle is built on a timber and steel tree, with malleable steel arches front and back, and solid brass fittings. Part of the design of this saddle is the leather seat can be easily removed, by unthreading leather lacing, and then the steel arches can be heated, so the tree can be easily spread for a wide horse, or pulled in for a narrow horse. This was done routinely hundreds of years ago when a wide horse was shot out from under the saddle in battle and, overnight, in the coals of a campfire, the saddle was refitted to a more narrow horse, if that was the only horse available!

A Santa Mark 111 saddle from Trevor James, of Brisbane, Australia. This is an unusual saddle because it has a seamless seat. Extremely close contact. The saddle has been rebuilt, by The Australian Stock Saddle Company, with new Merino sheepskin. Seat is a 16" Australian. Comes complete with Aussie safety stirrups, and girthing system.
